About CICS
Who are we?
CICS (Christian Initiative in Calderdale Schools) is a Christian Trust (Registered Charity Number 1097660), responsible to and supported by local churches and individuals in Calderdale. Our work, in association with Scripture Union, is to employ Christian schools workers that are available to work in Calderdale secondary schools.Why a Christian input?
Many young people have never met Christianity as a living faith. There will be many opportunities for the CICS schools worker to work and witness alongside existing structures.
What will the work involve?
- Promote spiritual development in schools by offering: Curriculum support/delivery/development.
- Contributions to assemblies and lessons.
- Support and development of Christian groups.
- Pastoral support for our school communities.
- Networking with local churches, youth workers, Christian teachers and parents.
- Appropriate training and opportunities for other volunteers associated with this project.
- Links that bridge the transfer between primary and secondary schools.
A Charitable Trust will be responsible for the work of CICS, 6 - 10 Trustees will be responsible to and supported by Christians and Churches in Calderdale.
The Trustees will present a report on the work and finances of the Trust to an Open Meeting of all supporters and Church representatives at least once per year.
The Trust has the following roles:
- Liaison, Publicity and Administration
- Worker Support
- Prayer and Pastoral
- Legal and Finance
Experience at SU advises that each group has 1 or 2 Trustees plus volunteers.
Liaison, Publicity and Administration
Liaise with the LEA, SACRE, diocese, professional bodies, other Faith Groups
Explain and publicise the aims of CICS to school staff, Parents, Governors and to local Churches
Maintain records and develop a database of contacts, with a registered correspondent under the Data Protection Act
Worker Support
Provide job descriptions and employment conditions to the standards of and association with Scripture Union
Provide line management, child protection and employment policies, and office support
Support training of its worker(s) and Trust volunteers
Prayer and Pastoral
Maintain pastoral oversight of Trust workers and volunteers
Set up and encourage a prayer support system, via contacts in Churches and in Schools, for individuals in Schools and Churches, and for the work with Calderdale young people in Schools
Legal & Finance
Obtain and maintain Charitable Trust Status
Stimulate and organise financial support, exercise wise and ethical stewardship of resources, which covers cash flow
Ensure cash flow so that the work can continue and grow
Provide audited accounts
Arrange legal and insurance cover
