No Knives For Halifax Youth
Tuesday 15th July 2008 10:19 AM
Last Night- 15th July over 200 young people attended a local inter-school Battle of the Bands at the Halifax YMCA. The event hosted by the local schools work charity CICS (Christian Initiative in Calderdale Schools) aimed to allow young people to express themselves through music in a safe yet fun environment. Bands were submitted from North Halifax Grammar School, Hipperholme and Lightcliffe, Rastrick High School and Todmorden High School and all performed at an extremely high level.
The event itself saw young people from across the whole valley mixing with each other and forming positive friendships. The winning band received recording time kindly donated by Calder Recordings and a website design donated by Pi Internet Ltd. Additional prizes, of a brand new guitar and vouchers donated by Guitar Zone at Dean Clough, were also given out to musician of the night and guitarist of the night.
The Winning Band were 'Websters Interiors' of North Halifax Grammar School, who presented a unique and original set and captivated their audience young and old alike. The band made up of Sam Baldwin (Vocals and Guitar), Jack Peavoy (Guitar), Ben Brezinski (Bongos), Tom Hardcastle (Bass) will go on, I'm sure, to do great things.
CICS would like to express their thanks to all involved especially the bands themselves. This event proved what talent is truly held within our Valley.
