CHRISTMAS OPPORTUNITIES
The Christmas season gave Tony the opportunity to talk openly about the birth of Jesus and the significance of that event for young people today He attended and read at Christmas services at Rastrick and Brighouse High schools, led assemblies at Brighouse High, and delivered a short message at Holy Trinity 's annual pre-breaking up whole school Carol Service held in Halifax Parish Church.
Jan 1st 2009 - Esther Woolcock joined CICS team as 2nd worker.
ASSEMBLIES
During February and March Tony and Esther will have the opportunity to lead assemblies at Brooksbank and Brighouse High schools. During the week March 9th they will be able to speak to the whole age range at Brooksbank. and will have the chance to explain to students at Brighouse High the Christian meaning of Easter.
LESSONS
The workers have again been able to use a session 'What is a Christian?' to year 7 students to introduce them to the Christian faith.
Tony has had the difficult task of tackling issues around the Christian perspective on the sanctity of life looking at abortion euthanasia, fertility treatment and suicide with a group of year 10 students from Brooksbank.
ROCK SOLID LUNCH CLUBS
In the recent copy of Inform we enclosed a prayer bookmark detailing times etc of lunch clubs. Please add Esther's name for prayer.
Good News!
Seventy five (approx) young people participate in 9 Christian lunch clubs supported by CICS each week. We have seen some encouraging growth in numbers and faith in lunch clubs this term, and have been blessed with help from volunteers and teachers to keep these clubs staffed.
Prayer Points
All volunteers which include:- teaching staff, a pastor, care force worker, students and others , who freely give their time to these valuable clubs.
Tony as he balances leadership & oversight so all can continue to run smoothly.
Esther as she settles into the groups and especially for her input into Rastrick, where she has responsibility for the group, and Holy Trinity. For her publicity work for Rock Solid Lunch Clubs. The students who attend, that these groups may have a lasting impression on their lives.
SOUL RUSH
Esther will continue to run this popular girls group. Next subject to be 'What God sees as beauty'
IT'S YOUR MOVE
An information letter will be sent to churches. Please look out for yours as we need churches to commit to making this excellent resource available to primary school leavers.
NETWORKING
Esther has contacted co-ordinators of personal, social health and citizenship education in schools re CICS involvement in the delivery of the subject.
Children & Youth Workers Network Meeting to continue at an arranged date.
Tony & Esther to attend schools worker meeting for workers from York, Leeds Wakefield and area.
TRAINING
Scripture Union Staff and Associate Conference 28th-30th April. Both workers to attend. Esther attended Associates Induction Day at SU headquarters, Bletchley
