Highlights this Summer

The success of the procession collection, display and stalls at the Halifax Charity Gala Trade was brisk at all our games - coconut shy, penalty shootout and pick a card. The display of art work done by the Lunch Clubs was eye catching and attractive, the atmosphere was competitive but friendly and the amazing amount of £666 was raised.

It's Your Move book distribution to Y6 pupils leaving junior school
13 new schools received books
All 55 schools who accepted books last year did so again (In fact only 11 of Calderdale's primary schools refused the offer)
1900 IYM books distributed via CICS all paid for by donations

Assemblies and Lessons

  • Year 8 students at Rastrick High School - topic Fear
  • Year 9 students at Hipperholme & Lighcliffe school - topic Poverty/charity giving


Faith Day & Activity Days

  • The Brooksbank School topic Poverty using Christian Aid Paper bag game. A 'fun, action packed and successful day'
  • Brighouse High School. Tony assisted Steve Bowers in presentation on various religious groups' perspective on tolerance to others.
  • Holy Trinity Activity Day. 90 year 7 students took part in their own art work, 'something to thank God for'; a treasure hunt to discover more about the Church building & the Bible, and looked at what it means to be a Christian.


Lunch Clubs
Topics covered: Suffering, The meaning of life, Was Jesus perfect?, Creation, Importance of the Bible, Peer pressure, Summer.
Some groups have been affected by school trips and other end of term events, but overall continuity has been maintained.

6 young people aged 16-19, food, relaxation and fun! Seminars on Trust and Leaving Home

Soul Rush & Holiday Contacts

  • What does the Bible have to say about 'Cholat' ? A fun session using the issues of friendship as dealt with in the film and of course sharing chocolate!
  • Esther will text a Christian message and Bible verse to 20 girls who have given her their mobile phone numbers so they keep in touch through the holidays.
  • A barge trip has been arranged for July 30th travelling from Halifax to Hebden Bridge with a picnic in the park.


Training

  • Esther and Tony have both completed the MARS (Marriage and Relationship skills) course with the hope that it will be useful in next terms work.
