Friday 4th January 2008 8:04 PM
Our regular supporters will know CICS has recently appointed a second schools worker. Beth Bentley will join the team at the beginning of January 2008. .
Q So Beth, welcome to CICS. It's great to have you on board. Would you like to tell us a bit about yourself?
A Well, I grew up in a Christian family in Harrogate although I'm originally from Bolton,. I moved around quite a bit as I was growing up. I decided to become a Christian on several occasions as a seven or eight year old without truly having a relationship with God.
Q How was secondary school for you?
A When I started secondary school there was a lot going on in my personal life. I journeyed through a tough time. It was then I realised that the only consistent part of my life was God. He never changed and he never let me down.
I came to see the importance of having God in my life.
Q What is your experience of working with young people?
A I've been involved in working with many different Christian initiatives and organisations A church in Leeds gave me the opportunity to get involved in serving. I also did mission work in Scarborough, London & Leeds.
I moved to York to St John's University to study for a degree in Theatre & Performance .This was a significant time for me as I began worshipping at the Rock of York. This is an infectious place to be and before I knew it I was heavily involved in the leading of the church youth work. During this time my passion for youth work grew. A re-formatted team enabled us to reach out to up to ninety young people each week.
Q What inspires you about joining the CICS team?
A To be able fulfil a passion of mine to meet young people and help them to realise God is relevant to them today and that you don't have to try to be 'someone you are not' to be the best in God's eyes.
.We need to be daring enough to give young people an opportunity to explore God. Making Christianity 'cool' is the biggest challenge we have - but it's possible.
Beth has been married to Tom since February 2007 and will be commuting to Calderdale from York. Please pray that Beth settles into her role quickly and remains safe as she travels
