Thursday 18th June 2009 10:15 AM

Assemblies & Lessons

  • This is a busy term for exams etc. There are currently no assemblies booked but contacts with schools look promising for some dates in the near future.
  • Tony and Esther have accepted a third invitation this academic year to be involved with a year 10 Faith Day at The Brooksbank School. A variation of the Christian Aid Paper Bag Game and the Parable of the Good Samaritan challenged the young people to think about poverty from the perspective of some of the world's poorest people and about their responsibility to help.

Lunch Clubs
The Prodigal Son; The Good Samaritan, The Persistent Widow; The Great Banquet.
The Lunch Clubbers looked at these parables with the aim of getting to know them better and to unpack Jesus' meaning when he told them.

Summer Activity Day
A day similar to the Easter Activity day (as in May report) will be run on July 13th for the remainder of Holy Trinity Year 7, again at Halifax Parish Church.

Summer Plans
Three Activity Days are at the planning stage for young people regularly in touch with CICS activities. Possibilities include: Sports and Dance Day, Creative Day, and a day trip out. Possible dates: 23rd & 30th July and 13th Aug.

Training

  • good inspirational teaching, useful contacts made at the Scripture Union Staff & Associates Conference at King's Park, Northampton
  • during July with MARS, a Christian charity. Title, Youth Relationship skills. Programme aimed at 16-18 year olds can then be offered by workers - 'Living Love, Loving Life', designed to help them to discover better relationship skills.
  • Esther will meet SU team for final editing of material she has written for their resources and Lunch Clubs.
  • Tony attended the 2nd 'Faith in Calderdale' Conference where the work of CICS was championed.

16+ Group met on 5th May and an overnight stay will be held for the group at Westwood Christian Centre, Huddersfield for fellowship and fun!

Church Visits
CICS presentations have been included in two churches' acts of Worship in May and two more such visits are planned. for later in the summer.

It's Your Move
Over 1900 copies of the book are to be distributed this year to Primary school leavers. This is an increase on last year's take up. Encouraging that more churches are taking a direct responsibility for funding and or delivery. Always scope for more such help!

Please pray for all the above activities.
