In at the deep end!

January came and went as fast as last summer's sun… but it has been brilliant. My first few months as a CICS worker have been busy to say the least, but now, during the half-term break, I have the opportunity to reflect over my time spent so far, and what the future holds.

My first few weeks have been filled to bursting: assemblies about Lent, lessons on abortion, "What it is to be a Christian", and the Christian perspective on long and short term aid. Plus Lunch clubs every day and a Year 10 Faith Day 'Living With Others', thrown in! We really couldn't have handled any more if we had tried!

Hope 2008 is an opportunity to break peoples preconceptions of stone age churches and cobweb filled hymn books. Despite the business of life the work God is doing, and the passion of Calderdale Christians to bring life in all its fullness, has not gone unnoticed by me.

Among all the work in schools, we have also somehow managed to find the time to start the planning of our activities for the summer term and holidays and we are having some real fun. Two main events should really allow us to build relationships with young people and be a true expression of Christ in what we do.

Firstly, in mid July we will be holding an inter-school battle of the bands. This event will mainly function as a relationship builder - a great way to get young people from all the schools working together to put on a fantastic evening of entertainment.

Secondly, at the beginning of August we will be running a three day non residential camp called P:form. This will be a forum for young people to express their individual skills and to get high quality training in a specific field - Sports/ Drama/ Dance/ Music. Relationship building again, but also allowing young people to connect with a real and life changing God who can blow their socks off!

So looking back, and looking forward, with excitement, my time so far with CICS has been fantastic, and I realise something great; the deep end is where it's at!
